N. V. Galushkin describes the custom: when the young Cossacks arrived, the old Convoy men completed their service; drawn up on foot at the Catherine Palace, they were passed along by the Emperor, who thanked them for their service and personally gave each the breast badge "For Service in My Convoy". This review on the last day before going home matches the family account of the Shah's saddle closely: Fedot Alekseevich was discharged from the Convoy "with the award of the badge for service in the Convoy" by order No. 60 of 17 June 1900. A note on names: the family account of the saddle mentions Prince Trubetskoy, who commanded the Convoy later, in 1906–14, while in 1900 the commander was Baron A. E. Meyendorff; memory seems to have kept the later, better-known name [Galushkin 1961, pp. 145, 170; Roster of A. B. Kalaushin, no. 73].
