The chronicle’s bibliography: revision tales, orders, newspapers, award lists, books, databases and family testimony. Each source shows its class, where it is held and the chapters that cite it.

How to read the marks

Every reference to a source carries its class: a mark and a word.

◆ documented
a primary source of the period — an archival or printed document whose text we have seen
◈ published source
a book, article, reference work or database; A.B. Kalaushin’s roster where it passes on documents
◇ family testimony
the family’s accounts: recorded in the roster, told and confirmed by relatives
△ hypothesis
our inference: an identification, a dating, a reconstruction
