The Pushkin museum in the Alexander Palace

On 10 June 1949 the first exhibition of the future All-Union Pushkin Museum opened in the Alexander Palace (then in the town of Pushkin); the President of the Academy of Sciences, S.I. Vavilov, cut the ribbon. Matvey Matveyevich was among those who opened the museum: a photograph captioned “On the day of the opening of the All-Union Pushkin Museum in the Alexander Palace” shows, from right to left, Vavilov, Geychenko and Kalaushin.

Pushkin’s house museum at Mikhailovskoye opened on 12 June 1949; on 14 June a commission accepted the display, and the first name in the act is “Kalaushin M.M., head of the Museum of the Institute of Literature of the USSR Academy of Sciences”.
