Afanasy Yegorovich, a graduate of the Stavropol Cossack Junker School, was commissioned khorunzhy in the 1st Uman Regiment; in 1895 he became a sotnik. His brother Stepan Yegorovich followed him as an officer (khorunzhy from 1896).
