Matvey Alekseyevich at Labinskaya

In 1910 Matvey Alekseyevich was chairman of the Second Mutual Credit Society of Labinskaya; directories record the Kalaushins’ harness goods and trade in burkas. The family remembers Mikhail Alekseyevich’s two-storey mansion on Krasnaya Street and the Kalaushins’ garden with electric lamps, an “electrobiograph” cinema and a brass band.

In a photograph of the 1910 graduates of the Maykop Military Crafts School, with saddle trees laid out before the ranks, the collector captions Mikhail and Aleksandr Alekseyevich as master instructors; in 1913 the Caucasus Calendar names Aleksandr Alekseyevich as the school’s teacher of harness-making.
