Vienna, 27 August 1896: Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Russian uniform; Convoy Cossacks at the door (Salzburger Chronik)

Caption

"Archdukes Franz Ferdinand and Ludwig Viktor wore the uniforms of their Russian regiments"; from the imperial saloon car "two Circassians in bright red uniform" — Convoy Cossacks — stepped out and took post at the door. The Archduke's encounter with Kuban Cossacks of the Convoy during Fedot Alekseevich's years of service is documentary background to the family account of the commission for Franz Ferdinand carried out by Matvei and Fedot Alekseevich [Salzburger Chronik, 28 Aug 1896, p. 2; Roster of A. B. Kalaushin, no. 71].
