On 12 April 1945 fifteen-year-old Boris Kalaushin set out for Pskov with S.S. Geychenko — “the future artist, who was going with me to sketch the ruined Pushkin monuments”, as Geychenko recalled. On 16 May Boris finished a draft plan of the Petrovskoye park, with its minefield and dugouts, and drew “Nanny’s Cottage” in pencil.

Geychenko becomes director of the Reserve

◈ published source

By Order No. 59 of the Institute of Literature of 15 April 1945 S.S. Geychenko was appointed director of the Pushkin Reserve. “More than anyone, Matvey Matveyevich Kalaushin pressed for my being sent to the Reserve,” Geychenko recalled.

Note on the roster: the roster says that Matvey Matveyevich “handed the post over” to Geychenko; in the documents Matvey Matveyevich is never called director of the Reserve — from 1934 he oversaw it on behalf of Pushkin House and recommended Geychenko as director.
