Pavel Aleksandrovich and the burning barn
◇ family testimony
Pavel Aleksandrovich lived in Batalpashinskaya; the family had a large and prosperous farm and kept bees. “During the Revolution” he was killed with pitchforks. His wife, Pelageya Alekseyevna, and their three small children were locked in a barn with other hostages and the barn was set on fire; “only by a miracle did they escape”. Afterwards the family lived in Cherkessk.

The road home from Persia
◇ family testimony
Roman Vasilyevich served in the 3rd Khoper Regiment. The family told how the Revolution found the Khoper Cossacks at war in Persia; they came by ship to Baku (Makhachkala), where “the revolutionaries would not let them ashore”, landed fighting, seized several trains by force and, short of Mineralnye Vody, rode home on horseback.
