On 16 February 1920, at Verkhneudinsk, Aleksey Matveyevich was made a colonel by Order No. 24 of the 3rd Army; from March 1920 he served in Chita, on the staff of the Far Eastern Army.

The death of Fedot Alekseyevich

Under the Whites Fedot Alekseyevich was again stanitsa ataman of Batalpashinskaya. In 1920 he was “shot by the Bolsheviks as a hostage in Batalpashinskaya by order of the special plenipotentiary of the Revolutionary Military Council of the 9th Army”; S.V. Volkov’s database dates his death to 1921. The family remembered him as “a man of kind soul”.

Secretary of the revolutionary committee at Khodz

From 1920, “from the moment Soviet power was established in the North Caucasus”, Matvey Matveyevich, still a schoolboy, served as secretary of the revolutionary committee of the aul of Khodz — so his grandson writes, and so the roster records. His three elder brothers, Aleksey, Nikolay and Aleksandr, went into emigration with the Whites in the same years.
